    Hi Ben:
Am an avid reader of your “One Mile at a time” blog. It’s awesome!
Just read your great tip for low Business fares from ORD to either Maldives or various Indian airports. I followed your directions and found the $2,534 ORD-BLR-ORD. I decided to book directly on the Cathay website and the fare was exactly as shown on the google flights search. Since I was intrigued by the fact that I was spending $2534 but actually earning about double that in EQD’s per your notation I was concerned that my first flight is on AA from ORD to LAX. Then onward LAX-HKG-BLR on Cathay and Cathay Dragon and return BLR-HKG-ORD all on Cathay Dragon and Cathay. But since my first segment is in AA, will my EQD’s still be figured on 25% of the total miles rather than the cost of the ticket?
I am Exec Plat on AA with about 4.7 million total miles.
    Thanks so much!

Yes, if you booked everything through Cathay, you will earn based on that earning chart
