Over the past year I have acquired three Amex cards solely for the sign up bonuses. These are first year no fee cards. As the annual fees come due, I want to cancel them, but I do not want to upset Amex. I have a bunch of points sitting there, and am concerned they may try to claw them back if I start cancelling cards.

I have several other Amex cards that I intend to keep, plus there are a couple other Amex cards that I have yet to apply for. I was thinking of possibly keeping one of these three cards for an additional year, just so I don't look like too much of a jerk.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Thank you!

Welcome @PointDexter - how close to each other are the renewal dates? If the three cards are spread out over the course of the year that may be fine. If they're all within a few months then I agree that maybe keeping one of them is worth it.

Also consider product changing at least one of them. If you close them all and lose all that available credit your credit score is going to take a hit.

Lastly, if any of these were used to accumulate Membership Rewards points, make sure you've still got at least one MR-earning card open or have transferred all your MR points out (or used them in some other way) or you'll lose them.

    Thank you for the reply.

One of them renews in January 2019. The other two renew in September 2019. Was thinking of keeping one of the September cards for an additional year. Also, hoping to get Pay Over Time offers on the two September cards before they renew.

There aren't any charge cards without annual fees to change to, are there?

I have the Blue Business Plus card, which I will definitely be keeping. So my points will be fine there.

I can't think of a charge card with no annual fee, so canceling is probably correct.
