I have been trying to redeem a LifeMiles business reward from MEL to Europe on Thai using the screen shot method that has worked beautifully in the past. This time it appears that LifeMiles or Thai have changed the rules.
Availability shows up on the LifeMiles website from MEL to BKK and from BKK to either MXP or MUC or CDG but not MEL to these European airports. When I submitted the screen shot award redemption I received an alternative award choice, not on Thai, that did not really suit.
I Skyped the Avianca call centre to query the redemption, noting that the Thai flights were still available.
The helpful CSA said that Thai flights to and from MELBOURNE eg TG466, TG461 were not able to be booked as paired onward flights. They were only bookable if the two connecting flights showed as available together on the availability website. Eg TG466 onto TG940 or TG925 onto TG461.
Has anyone else had this happen or have they been able to recently use the screenshot method successfully on Thai to/from Australia to Europe or Asia?

Only difference is Avianca are only letting you book the one leg flight on Thai to/from Melbourne, so to get to USA or Europe you would need 2 separate redemption bookings increasing the miles cost.
This means there will be little value using Lifemiles from Melbourne unless only travelling to Asia as TG is the only airline in Star Alliance that is redeemable in business class from Melbourne AFAIK.

Rarely if ever do Singapore release business seats to/from Australia through Lifemiles.
Occasionally Lifemiles call centre seem to be able pluck one from somewhere.
Air New Zealand and United never. Haven’t ever seen an Air Canada business award flight.
ANA and EVA from Sydney have some seats.
Air China also if you like.
