Premier earning on United

Having a hard time understanding how the premier mileage earning works.

I'm booking a trip for business, and looking to understand what premier earning potential I have. I'm currently United Silver, with about 32,000 premier miles flown. I'm looking to book a trip to Hong Kong, and the cheapest business class option through my company's travel agent is on Air China. Does that mean that if I credit the flight to United, I'll be eligible to earn premier qualifying miles on United? Based on the distance between NY and HK, I think I should be able to earn enough to hit the next status level (Gold).

    Thanks for the input.

Do you know the fare class you’d be booking in? Then, you would find out for sure.

Would you be booking through United but for travel on Air China? If so, you should earn Premier Qualifying Miles & Dollars. If booking direct on Air China, but crediting to United, then you would only earn Premier Qualifying Miles but not Dollars.

OP here (with a new handle) - thanks very much for the quick reply. Believe I'd be booking direct on Air China (at least, that's what it seems on my booking portal). Fare codes would be C on the outbound and Z on the return. My priority is to earn PQMs, since I've already earned enough PQDs to reach the next status threshold (UA Gold). OK for me to assume those fare codes will help me earn PQMs when crediting to United?

    Thanks again.

Yep, as long as the ticket is not issued by United (so doesn't start with 016) you'd earn 150% of flown miles in C, 125% in Z.
