Hi there. I can't seem to find an answer anywhere, but it seems really awkward to find any business class seats on longhaul Qantas flights. Is it because they limit them, or only release them a few weeks out? There are seats on occasion but it seems to be extremely rare. Anyone know if it's worth even trying online? I did manage a few years ago but had to call the AAdvantage call center and got really lucky. Nothing beats a QF 747 upper deck!

Welcome @Russell Cruickshank - finding premium cabin award flights between North America and Australia/New Zealand is one of the toughest routes to find. Qantas does limit the number of award seats they release and basically you have to just monitor to keep looking for them. That being said, they did just release a fair amount of seats last weekend, for travel dates in August and September.

You don't mention the route you're seeking but the best way to find the flights is to look just for the longhaul leg, say LAX-SYD/BNE/MEL or DFW-SYD or SFO-SYD and then tack on any additional flights. Be prepared to buy a positioning flight if needed.

If you've got more questions, feel free to ask.

Thank you MidSouth Skier. I didn't mention the route because I've been trying all sorts of options: I'm mostly focused on Sydney to Asia and even those are almost impossible in J. I'll keep trying but it's good to know they are eventually out there.

I just recommend you set up an ExpertFlyer alert, it is very possible that inventory opens at some point. Last year I managed to snag 2 seats in J from Sydney to NYC. I had been monitoring the situation for a while and all of a sudden it happened (possibly somebody released them I don't know). It was quite some time in advance though, if I remember correctly they opened in July for traveling in February.
