Airline refusing to follow EU261/2004 law re: flight compensation

    My Swiss Air flight was cancelled at the last minute. Under this law we should be entitled to compensation. The airline gave this excuse "the cancellation was caused by an unexpected flight safety shortcoming following the discovery of engine 2 stall caused by wind gust. For this reason, the aircraft had to undergo an immediate technical inspection." According to the law that is no excuse.
    Please advise.

    Unfortunately, SWISS has a track record of not honoring that law even though they voluntarily agreed to abide by it (Switzerland is not an EU country).
    Two years ago my flight from ZRH to BUD got delayed by 5 hours because of a series of mechanical problems with all 3 (!) planes (the original one and 2 replacement planes). This was displayed on the monitor and we all took photos of that. SWISS agents handed out info as to how to claim the compensation. When I submitted the claim to SWISS, they claimed "weather-related" delay and refused compensation. Sending them the photos of the monitor displaying the real reason had no effect.
    I tried using two different companies like AirHelp - they couldn't do anything either.
    I am sorry, but with SWISS I doubt that you will get compensation.
