I retired last year, and achieved Gold level status with AA after being Platinum, and Exec platinum over the past 10 years.
I have over 550,000 miles in the bank with AA
Question, do i get any benefit when I REDEEM miles from my AA account by being a Gold level member?
AA sent me an offer to pay $799.00 to maintain Gold status, I know there are some benefits when I purchase a ticket, but I am not sure about when I redeem miles if there is much benefit to being a Gold member over a nothing level of membership.....
also, my wife is a lifetime platinum member with over 4 million miles lifetime on AA

I think the only benefit is waived change/cancel fees on award tickets. Otherwise, no.

The only other benefit would be some sort of priority boarding/extra bags when traveling on AA operated flights.

AA Gold is also oneworld Ruby but that has very limited benefits.

Like @David W said, the benefits are very limited unless you plan on traveling a lot with AA in the coming year. It would take a lot of checked bag, priority boarding and change fees to offset that buy up offer.
