Buy miles or hope price drops?

Hubby and I are traveling to Scotland in July, first time traveling overseas in 18 years. Have 172,000 Skymiles in my account. For the past week, 2 tickets are 88,000 miles each, total of 176,000. Should I buy 4,000 miles at $140, or is there any chance of Delta lowering the price? I have read they can go down but are more likely to increase as the date approaches. Have seen lots of people mentioning checking the partner airlines- I checked show partner flights but didn't see any show up on Delta's site. Any other tips for using Skymiles?

I subscribe to the theory that if I find reasonable award space, I reserve those flights. I’ve held out in the past and prices have gone up or space disappeared. I’d purchase the additional miles and move forward. It’s impossible to predict if the prices will go up or down, the key in my experience is to determine if the mileage and/or price is “reasonable” based on the competition.

    Good luck with your trip!
