Cancelled award flight paid with a now-cancelled credit card

Let's say you booked an award flight with a bank's award program, like Amex Membership Rewards or RBC Avion (Canadian), and have since closed the card. What happens if your award flight is cancelled? Since the credit card is closed, where would they return the miles? Or is your only option at that point a voucher from the airline?

They'd probably give you a voucher. I can't speak for Canadian programs, but if you book a flight using a US program (like Chase Ultimate Rewards), the airline treats that as a cash booking.
