    Aloha Ben,

Currently, Hawaiian Airlines is offering me a 100% bonus on purchased miles: 60,000 miles for $900. As someone who uses this airline quite a bit (or did, before the pandemic), is this a good deal?

If the $900 includes all taxes and fees that's 1.5 cents per point. If taxes and fees are extra then the price increases. While Ben doesn't offer a valuation of Hawaiian miles, most airlines he values in the 1.3-1.4 cpp range so 1.5 is on the high end. TPG only values them at 0.9 cpp. So it's not a particularly good value.

*In general* if you don't have an immediate use for miles we don't usually recommend buying them for a rainy day because award programs pretty much only devalue. It's definitely an exception when your miles are suddenly worth more due to program changes.

That being said if you're just buying miles to top off an award and the price for the miles is cheaper than a cash ticket it might be worth it for you.
