I picked up the Hilton Aspire card a couple months ago and haven't really traveled since then. I was wanting to take advantage of the credit so read up on what others are doing. Seems like purchasing AA gift cards through AA.com was still working for most people, even though the fine print says the credit won't apply to gift cards. The details also say it can take 4-6 weeks for the credit to post but others are reporting seeing the credit after only a few days. I decided to take my chances (I'll use the gift cards either way) and bought a $100 gift card to start. I figured I'd wait a few days to see if the credit posted. I purchased on Friday and still haven't seen anything.

Has anyone else bought airline gift cards with the credit? How long did it take to post? Looking for more data points. Thanks!

Hey Dsent, I just upgraded to the Aspire last month. I also chose AA, and yes, I did buy gift cards. They were processed as "Misc Fees" - thank you AA! - and the credit was reflected on my account within days. Hopefully yours will clear soon. I would go in to your account and look under recent transactions to check how the sale was coded. As I said, I my transactions were coded as fees, but I did a test with $50, and then bought three at the same time, keeping the amounts at $75, $75 and $50 - a pain, I know, but it worked. All were coded as fees.

So here is what I’m seeing. Looks like it’s coded as Misc taxes/fees like you said but it’s interesting that it also says flight and lists a ticket number. Did you have that too?

Yep, having a ticket number is normal. I did 2x $100 and 1 X $50 with AA, and they were all reimbursed.

I recently upgraded to the Aspire card. I was not given the option to select an airline and when I followed the link in the post Tiffany listed above, it told me that none of my cards required an airline choice (I had already made a selection in January for my Gold card). Anyone have any ideas how I can at least see what airline I supposedly chose?

For me, when I login to my account and go to the benefits tab, I scroll down to the Airline credit and it just says it there. See pic.

Yep, I have the same and it cleared within a few days. 5 or 6 business days with the 'test', and I think 3 with the subsequent purchases.

    UPDATE

I selected AA as my airline on my Hilton Aspire card on 12/14 and bought a $100 gift card probably within an hour of doing so (after I received confirmation that I enrolled). This has still not been reimbursed on my account.

On 12/20 I bought another gift card for $50 and was reimbursed on 12/23.

I think now I'll just buy more $50 gift cards to use up the rest of the credit. I am wondering if I purchased my first one too close to the enrollment time? Probably should have waited a day or two.

Just to add some data points...

Another data point: I selected AA on the19th and later that day bought a $100 card. Was reimbursed on the 22nd.

    UPDATE AGAIN

I kept buying $50 gift cards every couple of days and they all got reimbursed by the end of the year. So I was able to use all of my $250 credit. I think I'll try another one for 2019 and see if it is still working or if they "fixed" this loop hole.

The only advice I would give someone else looking to do the same is maybe wait a day after you select your airline to make your first gift card purchase. My first $100 GC was purchased within an hour and did not get reimbursed.
