How to use Hilton Gift card?

I bought a $50 hilton gift card from
So I received an Amex Hilton prepaid card, and I assumed that its a normal gift card and I can use it to book any room from
So I tried to book a prepaid room rate at a Hilton property (HONORS DISCOUNT SEMI-FLEX rate), but at checkout there is no field to enter gift card number.
So I did a google search of how to use the Hilton gift card and found some people saying you cant even use the gift card towards room rates...only towards restaurant and non-room payments.
    Is that true?
If it is that means its a useless gift card!

Hi John, this is direct from the link you posted:

You can redeem a Hilton Gift Card when dining at one of our on-property restaurants, exploring our retail shops, playing at one of our golf courses, relaxing at our spas, or for any charge to your room portfolio.

I’d assume that means you could use it at check-out for any incidentals to your folio

Not sure about the pre-pay option but I have absolutely used Hilton GCs (purchased when Amex offers was giving cashback) to pay for room charges (not just incidentals). I just presented the card and asked them to apply the balance. You might call Hilton and see if they will take it over the phone...seems absurd to me that a Hilton giftcard cannot be used for hotel stays, unless it was part of a special promo or something.
