Iberia Expiring Miles If You Mix New Miles With Old Miles

Discussion in 'questions. answers. conversations.' started by Jon Lombardini, Jun 6, 2019.

  1. Hey Lucky,

I have an Iberia Plus account. I had 400 miles sitting in this account for 3 years. 3 Years is the date Avios expire with Iberia.

4 months ago I transferred 31,000 Chase Rewards Points into my British Air Account.

Then, I transferred 11,500 Avios from my BA account to my Iberia account about 3 weeks ago.

I logged in two days ago and noticed I had 0 miles.

Because my 400 previously existing Avios were 3 years old, and I had mixed 11,500 new Avios in with the old Avios, they canceled all 11,900 points.

I called Iberia twice, spoke with 2 different supervisors who said this was correct (and I pushed hard, I did not give up easily). Then I sent an email to Iberia Plus. They responded this was their policy. They informed me transferring Avios does not extend the 3 year expiration date. I told them, ok, that's fine, but only 400 Avios were 3 years old. The other 11,500 were 4 months old. They said it didn't matter.

I sent another email with screenshots, and I'm waiting to hear back, but this is pretty f'd. Have you heard of this before?

    Thanks,

    Jon Lombardini

That's certainly interesting and a unique application of expiration rules. @Lucky and @Tiffany, is this your understanding too?
