    Dear Sir:

Looking to plan a trip with my wife for sometime in the Spring of 2020, leaving from Miami or Newark and arriving in Tokyo or Osaka. Would love to stop on the way (or back) in Hong Kong for a few days if possible. Anything more than one stop would be two too many! Have 250k points in AMEX and 420K in Chase Ultimate Reserve. Not enough for both of us to fly free. Was thinking about paying for Economy fare and using points to upgrade to Business Class. Member of United Mileage Plus. How could I pull something like this off? AirFrance, Singapore Airlines and Virgin Atlantic are the only three that points could be transferred to, from AMEX and Chase. Complicated question I know, but thank you in advance for reading.

With the AMEX points, I'd recommend looking at Virgin Atlantic awards on ANA to and from Japan. They will be 120k miles ROUNDTRIP from the East Coast. After that, my preference would be to book a roundtrip in Economy or whatever from Japan on the short hop to Hong Kong, but you should have more than enough United points to book say, EVA Air through Taipei or look at ANA nonstop options.
