Lucky, I am a self confessed addict. Addicted to flying Qatar Airways Business Class. I look for the best value tickets from anywhere in Europe book a positioning flight with a low cost airline. My problem is that I am terrified of the QR terms and conditions which have huge no show and cancellation costs. I end up traveling on my positioning flight 2 days before my QR departure date. Do QR, really impose these costs if you think you will miss your flight?

Yes, they indeed do. They will also go after you if you drop that last segment some people like to do. They have a team of about 5-10 agents in Doha constantly monitoring these issues. Your fare will be recalculated for missed segments, and debit notes sent to agents if the ticket was issued via an agent, otherwise charged to your card directly. The same applies if you are a no show for the ticket and they have that no show fee.

But you can usually cancel before departure for a fee, even if 100%. It will be cheaper this way, usually.

TexasFlyer, I'm not sure if you are trying to make a joke, or actually spreading false information. Some readers on here genuinely are looking for advice, and I can't find any evidence to support what you are saying. If there is, please include.

No show fees are only charged if you try to change a booking after no showing, or try to ask for a refund. The airline does not automatically charge you.

They will however, drop any future segments on the reservation. That's not unique to Qatar, that' standard practice for almost every airline

This is a known fact and reported by many people in Qatar who have tried to use a cheaper connecting ticket to get into Doha. Not much evidence from people outside Qatar but they are not likely to use this method anyway. But QR has extensive team to monitor fraud. They have closed FF accounts, charged extra after recalculating fares, probably even banned some people who have not paid, etc.

Fair enough, I stand corrected... I still think that applies to repeat offenders who often book in that method.

For the random time someone legitimately misses a flight, I can't see someone at risk of having their frequent flyer account closed.
