Award Redemption Should I use AMEX Rewards Points (including 35% rebate) or Delta miles to book this delta flight?

Discussion in 'questions. answers. conversations.' started by scratchgolfer1722, Sep 7, 2019.

  1. Should I use AMEX Rewards Points (including 35% rebate) or Delta miles to book this delta flight?

It would cost 90,500 delta sky miles, or 92,119 AMEX Rewards points. I would get the 35% AMEX point reimbursement so it would end up being cut down to 59,877 AMEX points.

What do you all think is my best move? Appreciate it!

I consider Amex points to be more valuable than Delta overall, but 30,000 points is pretty significant savings. I'd go Amex.

Unless you have a huge stash of Delta points and this would eat up majority of your Amex points, then I'd go Delta.

I don't have any SkyPesos, and haven't for years. Just don't fly Delta anymore. I do agree with Ricky that Amex MR points are much more valuable, but that is why I'd keep them...

If you think you will find another use for the Delta miles, then keep them and use the Amex points. But I'm in the same boat with AAdvantage miles. Too many to use effectively. So if I find a use where I can use them (sAAver awards or AAnytime at a decent price ~50k roundtrip for domestic econ, or sAAver J awards internationally) I'd use the miles even if it would still be ~30% more than Amex points. Save the Amex points to put towards buying a business class ticket sometime.
