I'm trying to book a multi-city business class trip from SFO to Copenhagen next month and returning from Paris (all airports) back to SFO. The problem is I don't fly often enough to accumulate enough Skymiles for business class. I try to fly with Skyteam every time but flying out of the U.S three times a year is just not enough to meet Delta's redemption standards. I've also tried to purchase miles but the rate isn't that good. Last I checked, I would need 320,000 Skymiles for business class. Any recommendations?

Do you have any other miles or credit card points?

Copenhagen is also pretty good as a departure city for cheaper business class cash fares. If you have enough points for one-way (SFO to CPH), then you could pay cash for the return.

You could also consider taking J on the way there for the overnight flight and taking Y on the way back which I find OK for day flights? Ben also recently wrote about TAP having cheap fares, not sure about their route network but might be worth a look. Also consider searching for other destinations in Europe and taking a train.

Better redemption rates and availability are normally more plentiful and around five or six months out from your desired departure date. One month from travel time is a bit late, especially in peak travel season to find good options. Have you considered Premium Economy as an option?

As for travel credit cards, I only have the Delta Skymiles Amex Gold credit card and a Chase IHG rewards credit card (I rarely use it) and that’s about it. My aim is to stick with Skyteam airlines. Also I won’t be departing from Copenhagen, instead I will be departing from Paris back to SFO. I am very short on miles even for a one way trip. The price of a one way is $2,000ish (economy class) and $8,000 for business class which is ridiculous. Hence, I was trying to book a multi-city trip.

What about buying an econ ticket and trying to use what miles you have to upgrade? I am not familiar with SkyMiles, so I don't know how likely that is to occur. But it is worth considering.

This close in and limiting yourself to Skyteam really does limit your options. Delta may be the best US carrier (may! not trying to start a debate) but SkyMiles isn't called SkyPesos for no reason...

I actually have considered premium economy as well since that's what I typically go with.
