Lucky, why are there no non-stop or direct flights between Toronto and Johannesburg? It would be a fairly well subscribed route. Is it a $ or a landing rights issue?

It looks good on paper, as Toronto and Johannesburg are both Star Alliance Hub, and there is a decent amount of traffic to and from the region, but this would be one of the worlds longest non-stop flights. This might work if it was a business route and people were willing to pay the premium to fly direct, instead of a one-stop option though LHR, FRA, CDG, AMS...etc. YYZ-JNB would be more of a leisure tourism route, and those type of travelers want a good deal. Would be hard to compete.
