I thought that marketed meant that it was sold as BA flight, but operated by AA.

Yes, that is correct. A SWU cannot be used to upgrade a BA ticket on an AA flight.

Your original post says "operated and sold as AA" but also says "BA issued ticket". Which airline sold (marketed) the ticket? IF BA, then an SWU cannot be used.

I see. Ticket sold by BA, the flight in question is AA 100 (JFK-LHR). It can not be upgraded at the airport?

It is an outbound flight. The inbound flight is on BA.

So it is a BA-issued ticket for both legs: inbound LHR-JFK on BA, and outbound leg is on AA metal? Nope, you cannot use the SWU. You can try (I've had weirder things happen - like AA not charging me $300 nor deducting 25k miles for a transpacific award upgrade that went through).

Are you saying that I can upgrade with miles/co-pay?

Nope, not saying that. I was saying you try to use an SWU by calling the EP desk from the airport. I can't imagine it will work. I was just saying weird things / glitches sometimes happen.

In my case, I put myself on the upgrade list for AA international flights - outbound and inbound, from discount premium economy ticket to biz class, using miles (25k) and copay ($300). I got upgraded both legs. The outbound literally cleared on my way from the lounge to the gate (*after* boarding started). I was never charged the miles nor the $. The return leg cleared 3 days before departure, and I was charged. So, perhaps, just maybe, if you call the Exec Plat desk from the airport a "glitch" will allow you to upgrade. Probably not, as it is a BA ticket and the Exec Plat desk probably can't see it. But who knows. It can't hurt to try.

Thanks. I am trying to upgrade business to first. Hopefully, it is still available on departure day.
