We had purchased tickets on South Africa Air. The airline cancelled our trip and I understand they are going out of business. What happens to our tickets. Are we out of luck?

From my experience working at the airport, and seeing multiple airlines go belly up (ie. Primera, WOW, Jet), you’re basically out of luck. Your best option is calling your credit card issuer and seeing if they can cancel the transaction

To follow up on Owen's post, if they are not yet out of business, file that CC dispute / charge-back claim ASAP. I am not familiar with South African bankruptcy law, but if it is like the US (and UK), once they file for BK, you become an unsecured creditor. Much better for you to get your $ from the credit card company, and let them fight as an unsecured creditor - they've got more say.
